Discounts
Cashiers can be
prevented from doing any discount by setting the appropriate permissions
flags in the Back Office software employees/Cashier and Sales Team Maintenance
function.
-
Discount functions are accessed by touching the
'Discounts' button then the 'Selected Items'
Button on the screen.
There are 4 types of 'Selected Item' Retail Discount available
on the POS Lanes.
Each Discount has two quick preset buttons and a 'Specify
Amount' button.
The buttons are setup by individual cashier in the
Back Office Setup Cashier Maintenance routine.
Subtotal Dollar Discount
Subtotal Dollar Discounts DO NOT 'Net' to any Departments and are not suitable for some retail
environments.
If that is the case then disable these discounts in the Back Office
Employees- Cashier and Sales Team Maintenance options.
An additional line for Non - Netting Discounts is added to
the Daily Summary Department reports. If you DO want all
discounts to Net back to Departments then use the Item Discounts
instead.
- This is the broadest type of discount to
apply.
-
Touch the Specify Amount Button - Enter the dollar discount amount on the touch Keypad
then touch the ‘Enter‘ key OR Touch one of the Preset
Buttons ($1.00 or $5.00 in the example screen above.)
- Any Dollar Amount entered here will
automatically subtract from the Subtotal and appear on the receipt as a
negative dollar amount.
The discount can also be voided like any other
line.
-
A sale can be forced negative using this option also - this
would in effect make a Cash Return sale.
Subtotal Percent
Discount
Subtotal Percent Discounts also DO NOT 'Net' to any Departments.
- An additional line for Non - Netting Discounts is added to the Daily Summary Department
reports.
- If you want all discounts to net back to Departments then use the ITem Discounts
instead.
- This applies a Percentage Discount to the
Subtotal - ONLY if any items in the sale are
flagged as 'Discountable' in the Back Office (Inventory - Item Maintenance
- POS options screen).
If an item is sold on an Event
or alternate Price Level then it is no longer
Discountable at the POS, even though it may be flagged as such when sold
at regular price.
- To give a 5% discount on all eligible items within a sale,
touch the ‘SUBTOTAL Discount Percent’ Key, touch 5 and then ‘Enter’ on
the touch Keypad OR Touch a Preset 5% Button.
-
Taxes on items are re-calculated and the discount total
is shown on the receipt.
Item
Dollar Discount
This applies a Dollar amount Discount to an
item ONLY if the item in the sale is flagged as
discountable or has not been
sold discounted already.
- If the Item is already included on an alternate Price Level
or Event it will not be Discounted further.
-
e.g. To give a $1.00 discount on an item within a sale,
Touch the item on the cashier’s list, then touch the ‘Item Discount
Amount’ Key.
Touch [1] [0] [0] and then [Enter] on the touch Keypad OR touch one of the preset button for an automatic discount
on the specified item.
Taxes and price on the item are re-calculated and the
discount on the item nets back to its department.
The item price on the
receipt reflects the discounted price.
Item Discount Percent
This
applies a Percentage amount Discount to an item, ONLY if the item is flagged as 'Discountable' on the Back Office or
has not been
sold discounted already.
e.g. To give a 15% discount on an item within a sale, Touch
the item on the cashier’s list.
- Touch the ‘Item Discount Amount’ Key.
- Touch15 and then ‘Enter’ on the touch Keypad OR Touch a Preset Button for an Automatic Discount.
- Taxes and price on the item are re-calculated and the discount amount nets back
to its department.
- Discounts have
their own Report in the Back Office software (Store - Sales Details
- Performance Reports - Dollar or Percentage Discount
Reports)
-
The item price on the receipt always reflects the discounted
price.
Item Wholesale Percent
This feature is actually a COST PLUS percentage feature and is discussed in
more detail on the next page.
It is generally used for sales where a trade customer gets a fixed
percentage above the cost price of an item.
It is represented as a Discount because you should be selling
for lower than the normal Every Day price.
Otherwise the feature works the same as the Item
Percent Discount
To Calculate...
The cost of the item is taken then the percentage specified is
added on to the cost.
This figure is then subtracted from the Every Day price to show a
discount.
