Scanner Problems
Metrologic Serial,
USB and any keyboard wedge type scanners are supported by the
software.
However we do not recommend keyboard wedge type
interfaces as they are not fully compliant with the way the software works
in all cases.
The following notes only pertain to serial interfaces or USB
scanners setup for bi-directional communication using OPOS
drivers.
By design, the Scanner's barcode scanning functions will be suppressed in some modes on the Lane software as
follows:
- All Payment Methods,
- Pay Out
- Payment To Account
- Cashout, Customer Search
- Receipt Search
- Sale Search
- If the Cash drawer is open
- If the POS Printer is not setup properly or Off
Line.
Please note that the scanner may not
immediately scan an item if it has been idle a while. This is
a power saving feature and not a problem. The timeout can be changed in the
scanner programming.
- The scanner will not immediately scan the same item
twice.
- If the scanner will not scan an item (does not beep) whilst in
sale mode, and it HAS been working then try another product, it may just
be a bad barcode label.
- If the scanner refuses to scan anything and does not beep while
the software is in Sale Mode, and a laser pattern can be seen on the
product then there may be a problem with the system.
- Try a Lane Reboot Re-try the scanner,
if there is no change then the scanner may be at fault.
- If no laser pattern is visible then the scanner is
down.
- If the scanner beeps but the system does
not display a number
or scan an item then there is a system problem.
-
Check connections,
Reboot and do a Lane Repair through the
software. Retry. (The scanner may also be in need of
repair).
- Manual Barcode Entries
- If the scanner stops scanning and sending through barcodes to
the Lane for any reason then item barcodes can be entered directly into
the system via the Touch Keypad, as you would any other PLU code.
- The item should also be available from the 'Inquiry' screen.
- The code entered has to match exactly the entry in the Back
Office for that item.
- Make sure that the Video and Scale Serial COM Port entries
in the configuration are not conflicting with the Scanner Serial Port,
or the ooutput will have unpredictable effects on the scanner. e.g. If
the scanner stops beeping then check there are no COM Port conflicts
resulting in miscellaneous characters being sent to the
scanner.
Call for technical support on all scanner related
problems.
If the system does not recognize a number
that the scanner is passing through then it will display the input on the
screen. This may help diagnose the problem.

If the pale yellow area (top left) of
the screen does not show any message (goes blank) immediately after a
scan, then the scanner is passing garbage data through to the system or
not programmed to work through the OPOS drivers.
