Operating System Setup

Currently, we only fully support recent 32 bit Microsoft Windows Pro (XP/Vista/7) and Server (2003/2008/R2) operating systems.

 Windows Server 2008 64 Bit R2 ONLY is recommended for Head Office (Back Office only) applications that require mutliple users accessing the Back Office concurrently.

Windows Home Systems  (XP/Vista/7)  are not recommended as there is not enough support in these versions for professional networks.

Windows 64 Bit Client systems are not recommended for POS Lanes, mainly as many POS drivers are still 32 bit and don't work properly in a 64 Bit environment.

The latest service packs must be installed on all systems.

When installing the Operating system, ensure the Administrator password is set and not left blank.

Use the 'Windows Update' software to ensure that the system has the latest security patches and bug fixes available from Microsoft.

Install and update all hardware drivers required for the PC so that there are no 'Unknown Devices' shown in the Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager.

Anti-virus/Backup software should be installed on the Back Office Machine but NOT installed on any of the lanes unless a specialized setup is performed that minimizes unwanted activity.

The Windows Firewall software supplied with the operating system is the only firewall program that we support.

Have your computer operating system installed by a qualified technician.

It is impossible to support systems that have been damaged due to inadequate security.

The sole remedy offered in these situations is a restore from a previous backup.

Make backups daily!
