Selling Items by weight (SCALE Items)
If a scale is interfaced to the POS
Lane then;
- Place the item on the scale.
- Touch the PLU button for the
item, OR Key Enter the PLU on the touch Keypad.
- The item must be set up as a scale item in the Back Office
Software for this to work.
The item will be weighed and sold by the Kilogram (kg) or Pound (lb) depending on your pricing
structure.
If no scale is
integrated into the system, or any other item needs to be sold by measure.
(i.e. Length, Litres, Yards
etc..)
- Touch the 'Scale Button' on the POS screen
- Key the weight of the item in Kilograms (kg
is the correct abbreviation) or
Pounds (lb) on the touch Keypad.
Notice the decimal
place entry can now be used when entering a quantity.
- Touch the PLU button, or if you have to enter
a PLU code, touch the [@] button before entering the PLU code.
- If
you omit putting in the item weight and just sell the item, it will
assume a sale of 1 kg or lb or as setup in the Back
Office.
- Scale items have to have the 'Scale'
flag set in the Back Office software using the Inventory - Item
Maintenance edit form.

- If this flag is set OFF then the LANE will refuse to sell
the item by weight and assume it is a normal 'Each' item.
- If the flag is set ON, then the item can only be sold as an
each item (1kg)
when the scale button is touched first.
- This system will work for any item that is sold by a scaled
measure of any sort, such as fluid volume (Litres) or length
(Metres).
