Printing a Shelf Labels Batch
Multiple label designs and batches can be stored  and printed at any time.

If you are always using the same design then you do not have to repeat design steps once the design is working and saved!

The Label Design and Label Printer must be setup in the software properly before printing labels can be done successfully. See the bottom of this page for troubleshooting tips.

To find an existing Label Design, select one from the 'Label Batch' Tab option of the Labels Form.

Not all printers are created equal - we recommend a good name brand Laser printer for quality, speed and economy.

Buying a $100.00 Ink Jet printer looks like a good idea but it will cost you $500.00 or more in ink every year if you do lots of print runs.
Ink Jets also are unreliable, their ink smudges easily when still wet and they are slower than a laser printer!  - they are OK for home applications but not for business use.

Fine tuning of the Labels overall positioning on the page can be accomplished using the Page margin and Gap Width settings in the Label's Design editor.
  • The numbers in these boxes correspond to 1/100 of an inch (Very fine!) so a setting of 25 represents 1/4 of an inch etc. This then lets you adjust the Left, Right and Top margins of the page against your printer.
  • The Gap width represents the width between labels on the page.  It is recommended that you start with 0 zero for this setting.
  • Setting the left and right margin of the page also sizes the label against the page.
  • The larger the margin settings, the smaller the width of the label.

Once a label has been designed, build Labels into the batch as described in the 'Building a Batch' , section of this chapter.

Click on the 'Print>' button to return to the Label batch for printing.

To Print the labels, Select the  'Items Print' Tab Option the click the 'Print' button on that Tab.

If you are want to re-use a partially used sheet, enter the starting position of the first label that you wish to print in the 'Start Posn' box next to the 'Print' button.

This assumes the top left label starts at '1' and continues across, and down, so that the bottom right hand label on the sheet would be '32' on a 4 x 8 sheet.

A print preview of the labels is then generated on the screen.

If the labels do not look correct, just close this preview, change the design and click on print again.

Each page can be previewed on screen like a normal document.

To send the labels to the printer, click on the Top Left, printer Icon on the preview.

Once the batch has been printed successfully, it is a good policy to clear it out ready for the next batch batch to prevent printing duplicate batches.

    Printing Problems you may encounter...

Error Message 'Type Mismatch' followed by the program exiting to the desktop

    • This occurs if you have just installed the software but not rebooted the PC before trying to print a Barcode.
Error Message 'The Report width exceeds the Printer width.'
    • Make sure all of the boxes on your label design do not exceed the width of the Design box.
If necessary, choose a larger box and Show all the selections to find the problem.
Move all selections inside the final design box size.
    • Try setting  Left and Right Margins to zero and re-choosing the Label Type (3,4,5) from the boxes to re-size the designer box.
Margins can be fine tuned later!
Right Label not printing completely -
    • Decrease the Left Margin size to move the labels over to the left.
    • Increase the Right Margin size to decrease the overall width of the labels.
    • Decrease the width of the boxes in each label
Bottom Label not printing completely and/or labels creeping down the page.
    • Decrease the Top Margin size to move the page higher
    • Decrease the Height of the Boxes in the design
    • Move the boxes in the design higher up
Barcode Fonts not showing in Font List Barcode not printing.
    • The barcode number is not a valid UPC code.
    • Barcode 123 is activated instead of Barcode B/C
    Barcode not scanning at POS
    • The width of the barcode box on the design is too small, cutting off barcode.
    • Barcode 123 is activated instead of Barcode B/C
    • Incorrect barcode does not agree with barcode on product label.
The design is plain not doing what you want it to!
    • Open the page up to a 2 x 5 label and make sure their are no boxes hiding outside the limits of your design.
    • Turn off all boxes except for the description and see if you can make it work from there. Slowly add design components when it starts to work.
If the top margin on your paper is excessive, the logic in the program may not understand the paper design.
    • Using a simpler type of label page layout may be your only alternative
Deselecting and Reselecting a Label box checkmark will reset its position on the box to the Top Left.
