SQL Server Setup/Installation
If you are viewing this form from within the back Office Software Menu, then the software is already installed and ONLY the 'Test SQL Server' option is available.

The other options shown below are only available upon initial software installation.

Recommended operating systems are Windows™ 7 Windows™ Pro  32 bit and Server 2008 R2.

The Software will run under other version of Windows™ and 64 bit Windows™ operating systems (XP/Vista Home/Pro 32/64, Server 2003/2008 ) but additional support considerations may apply.

All latest Service Pack Levels and patches from Microsoft must be applied prior to installation.
When installing Windows initially, create an Administrator user and password as part of the Windows installation.
Make a note of the password for future reference.

  • Log in as this user to install the software.
To install the software download it from your software Vendor's web site or install from fixed media.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 must be installed on a Network Server or the Local PC prior to installing the Back Office software.
  • We recommend a very minimum of 2GB RAM for any machine that has SQL Server installed.
  • More RAM should be made available if the Server and POS Software are running on the same machine.
  • Patch the installed SQL Server with the latest Microsoft Updates.

Any version of SQL Server 2008 R2 is supported (Express, Standard, Enterprise etc.)

Microsoft SQL Server should be configured by persons familiar with its operation and maintenance, full support for SQL Server is beyond the scope of this manual.

SQL Server Setup

When the SQL Server is installed it should be configured to allow the TCP/IP communications protocol, using the SQL Server Configuration Manager software.

  • If network PCs are not operating under Trusted Domain conditions then 'Mixed  Mode' authentication should be turned on during setup, to allow logins from remote machines.
  • The Server's Firewall should be configured to allow communications over the configured TCP/IP Ports.
  • Check the Protocol's properties in the SQL Server Configuration Manager to see the Active and Dynamic Ports.

The SQL Browser Service should be running when installed.

  • UDP Port 1434 should be opened to allow the SQL Browser Service to listen on that port.
  • Stop and Restart the SQL Server Service to allow any changes made to come into effect.
  • Use the SQL Server Management Studio Tools, or the 'SQLCMD' command line tools to setup Users and Login permissions if desired.

When the SQL Server has been installed and tested, then the Back Office software setup can begin

  • Run the eStream System 5 installation msi file supplied by your software Vendor.

Upon initial startup of any new database, including upgraded databases, you will be required to enter a License Code.

ManualPicture

This License code is your proof of purchase of the software and will have to be set up in conjunction with your software Vendor.

  • Some Reporting and Communciations functions of the Back Office are disabled if a License is not installed.
  • Full support services are not available for unlicensed installations.

The first time the software is run, a registration screen pops up which gives you a 7 Digit 'Key Information' code.

Please read the license agreement and agree with the terms in it before clicking on the Check Box to install the license.

All purchases are Final, due to the nature of software, money will not be refunded once the license has been purchased.

That is the last time you will have to register the program with us unless you want to install the program on another PC or re-install on a newly installed operating system.  There may be a fee for re-licensing your product, determined by the circumstances of your request.

Make sure the Database is backed up before the software is uninstalled, or reinstalled (for any reason!) after product registration.

For further information refer to the file backup/restore section of this manual.
